Are Project Plans Ready to Build? What Do They Include?

All project plans were drawn by professional designers or drafters and are ready for you to build.

The blueprints for most of our project designs include the following elements, the presentation of which will vary with the size and complexity of the project and the style of the particular project plan designer.
  • Plan Rendering: the designer’s drawing of the front exterior of the project plan. Renderings may be in color and are usually more “artistic” than the other plan views.
  • Are Project Plans Ready to Build?

  • Elevations/Plan Views: the designer’s black and white sketches of all other views of the project: rear view, both side views, as applicable to the project.
  • Are Project Plans Ready to Build?

  • Floor Plans: Floor plans show the placement components of the project (walls, windows, etc., as applicable to the project).
  • Are Project Plans Ready to Build?

  • Framing Plan: The framing plan shows how the basic structure of the plan fits together. It shows the size, spacing and direction of all the roof rafters and ceiling joists. It also specifies the size of all beams and headers and other framing details.
  • Are Project Plans Ready to Build?

  • Cross sections: show details of the project as though it were cut in slices. The cross sections specify the project’s construction, insulation, flooring and roofing details. (Shown: one image from cross section sample)
  • Are Project Plans Ready to Build?

  • General specifications: provide instructions and information regarding structure, excavating and grading, masonry and concrete work, carpentry, thermal and moisture protection, and specifications about drywall, tile, flooring, glazing, caulking and sealants, as applicable to each project.

  • Materials List: breaks down the building supplies and lumber you’ll need, carefully detailing the quantity, type and size of each item. It also organizes your materials, putting them into groups. You can use this as a shopping list to take to your lumberyard or building supply store. Depending upon the plan and its complexity, this may be sold separately.
